We've had a busy spring here at Alloy. June is the beginning of nice weather and we're getting ready for summer construction. We also have some big plans and adventures in the works.
Kensington Laneway House
Our Kensington Laneway House is coming along nicely. Inside the house cabinets have been installed and paint is on the walls. The outside of the house is close to being completely finished. We have installed beautiful cedar soffit — the area from the eaves to the side of the house — that compliments the black metal siding perfectly. The house is really coming together and looks very different now that the cladding is in place.
Houndsfield Heights House
This is the last time our Houndsfield Heights House will be included in one of our monthly updates. Other than a few final touches there is no work left. The landscaping is done and our clients have been heavily involved in using their green thumbs to make it look exactly the way they want. The front deck and railing incorporate a unique design that we sometimes include in our homes. While you can't get out of needing gutters and downspouts you can hide them away out of sight. They are incorporated into the design of the railing and deck so that they aren't visible but can still be accessed for cleaning and maintenance purposes.
Landscaping continues at our Rosedale House. After a couple of seasons the initial plantings have matured and we’ve unleashed our landscapers’ creativity on the unique built-in planter box beneath the great room windows. The columnar aspen has taken advantage of the tree well in the front eaves and has doubled in height since last spring!
Alloy in the Press
Alloy Homes co-founder Christopher Lemke is competing in the Transpacific Yacht Race — Transpac for short. It'll take him and his crew between 11 and 15 days to make it from Long Beach to Hawaii. You can read more about it in the National Post or the Calgary Herald. You can follow his progress on the Glenmore Sailing Club website.
We were included in an Avenue story where we talked about tips and trends in kitchen renovations. Read it here.
First aid course
At Alloy we take safety seriously. First aid courses are an easy way to be prepared if something happens at home or on one of our sites. Over the two day course, we learned CPR and first aid.
Alloy sponsored a hole at the Jann Arden Invitational Golf Classic for Enviros. It's a great opportunity to give back and support an organization that does important work in our community. Enviros is a not for profit social services agency that provides therapeutic programs to families, children and adults struggling with behavioural challenges, addiction and mental health problems.
