Summer 2017 in Review

It’s been a big summer on a lot of fronts but let’s start with the most exciting news first….

Alloy Homes Co-Founder Victorious in Transpac Yacht Race

In July of 2017, Alloy Homes co-founder and managing partner Christopher Lemke sailed with his Calgary-based crew across the Pacific from Long Beach to Hawaii in the Transpac Yacht Race. We’re very pleased to announce that not only did they make the voyage successfully but they managed a Division win and took home three trophies in the process including a coveted Navigator’s award.

For their efforts, Sail Canada named Chris and his crew the Helly Hansen Sailors of the Month in Canada. Way to go, guys!

New Construction Projects

We’ve broken earth on three new homes this summer, and we’re very pleased with how they’re all turning out. Framing a home is one of the most exciting times for us and our clients because it’s at this point that a home transforms from an abstract concept into a physical building in its actual urban context. It’s rewarding to take a first real walk through a space that’s previously existed only in our minds!

Roxboro Riverside House

This dramatic custom home on a prominent lot facing the river is sure to become a landmark in Roxboro. It takes full advantage of its bright corner lot and is designed for indoor/outdoor living with large patio spaces, huge overhangs and wraparound opening glass walls. It’s also a great example of what can be done to mitigate the impacts of possible future flood events. We’re planning a future blog post dedicated to the innovations that we’ve incorporated into our homes when flooding is a possibility.

Mount Pleasant House 8

Our 8th home in the Mount Pleasant area is a custom family home designed to take advantage of a sunny south back yard and views to the leafy tree-lined street. Deep overhangs offer protection from sun, rain and wind. We’ve preserved the existing mature vegetation wherever possible, and we’ve even incorporated a microbrewery! Stay tuned for updates.

Ravine Drive House – Edmonton

We’ve designed a number of custom homes in Edmonton, all of which have been signature projects on dramatic properties. With our new Ravine House, we continue this tradition. It’s designed as a private retreat with every interior space opening up to the expansive woodland and ravine behind the home. We’ll be posting updates as construction progresses.

Updates on Current Projects

Mount Pleasant Spec House Landscaping

Since selling our spec home on 28th Ave in Mount Pleasant last year, we’ve been helping the new owners make the most of the property. This summer we’ve been working with Visionscapes on a dramatic new landscape design that integrates with the modern architecture of the home.

Kensington Laneway House

Progress continues at our Kensington Laneway House. We’re on to interior finishing and we’ve just started work on the incredible vertical gardens. We’re building walls of edible greenery that will offer privacy and create an urban oasis that integrates the yard and the upper level outdoor terraces.

Hounsfield Heights House

Our urban cottage in Hounsfield Heights is complete. Our clients treated the whole project team to an exquisite dinner on the new deck overlooking the city skyline. Thanks for a wonderful evening! Look for a complete photo documentation of the project in our portfolio later this year.
